Artist Spotlight: STORK

Sometimes you have to look up, bend down, or just get a little lucky. A facade, a roof angle, an old forgotten wall... And suddenly, it's there: a small pixelated stork, frozen in the scenery. It's the discreet yet recognizable work of Stork, an urban mosaic artist based in Strasbourg.

🕊️ A stork on every street corner

For several seasons, Stork has been scattering dozens of mosaics across Strasbourg, depicting stylized storks in pixel art fashion. Miniature works, all different, perched out of sight or nestled in improbable corners. Installations that are both playful and poetic, inviting you to rediscover the city like a treasure hunt.

His project, simply named Stork – the stork, a strong symbol of Alsace – was born from a family spark: an introduction to street art mosaic hunting with his nephew. Soon, this forty-something, passionate about cities and perspective, wanted to appropriate this practice, but in his own way.

🧩 Pixel art, but made in Alsace

There was no question of copying well-known artists already operating in his streets. So he chose an emblem that was his own, deeply linked to his territory: the stork. By playing with colors, details, and situations, he multiplies the variations: a stork in the colors of the Racing Club de Strasbourg, a traveling stork on Rue de Lausanne, or a stork-tribute to Tomi Ungerer in front of his museum.

Each mosaic is designed in connection with the place where it is installed. He looks for perspective, light, or a contextual nod. But never at eye level, to protect the works from damage. Some are even placed high up, sometimes in acrobatic situations... like above the highway!

🌆 From Strasbourg to Paris, and beyond

While Strasbourg remains his main nest, Stork's storks have begun to migrate. They can now be found in Paris, where a more ambitious project is taking shape: tracing the silhouette of a giant stork by connecting mosaics across several arrondissements. A kind of urban-scale pixel art.

Today, hundreds of storks have been installed, between Strasbourg and Paris. And this is just the beginning: storks are made to travel, and Stork has no intention of keeping them in a cage.

✨ Discreet, affectionate, and local street art

Stork doesn't really consider himself an artist. He claims no gallery, no manifesto. He acts out of passion, at night, for the love of the game and the city. His approach is part of a gentle and symbolic aesthetic: that of an art that doesn't disrupt, but enriches the landscape, that invites you to slow down, to look up, to smile.

So next time you're in Strasbourg, keep an eye out: the stork might be there, just above you. And it's watching you.
